Donations / Recycling
On occasion, when working with clients, they will show us a pile
of items that were previously separated for donation, but never
managed to leave the house. An important step in the organizing
process is eliminating the items from the house so that the space
can be used more effectively.
If there is one lesson we want to teach, it is placing items directly
into the car and taking them to their final destination without
delay. It is such a relief to have the project finished and so rewarding
to enjoy the new and improved space in your home.
There are a number of ways to get rid of your possessions. They
typically fall under three categories: donations, recycling, and
trash.
We have put together a list of donations/recycling places in our community. We apologize for any links that may no longer work, these resources are constantly changing.
Search the web for them by name to find the new webpage locations or to find additional resources.
Donations
Often, your donations are tax-deductible. Most organizations will
give you a receipt for your tax records. Many of the places, you
drive up, hand the bag to someone, and they provide a receipt without
investigating what is inside. It is very easy. There are so many
places that accept donations, one can choose to support an organization
that is important to them or even easier, find the closest one. Some
organizations may offer regularly scheduled pickups in your
neighborhood.
Recycling
Most areas now offer recycling. Your local facility should be able
to provide a list of the items that are accepted.
Electronic
recycling stations can now be found at the front of many stores
that sell electronics.
Disposing
There are some products (i.e. paint, oil, batteries, cell phones)
that need to be hauled away or have special disposal rules. If you have large items or a large amount
to dispose, you may need to take the items directly to the dump
or have a dumpster delivered to your property. |
