Tips for the Home
Kitchen Tips
- Place things close to where you need them.
- Remove items you never use. If used rarely,
is there a place in the garage to store them?
- As your family moves through different life
stages, re-evaluate the position of things in the kitchen.
- Periodically check dry goods/cans and remove
dated items.
- Recipe collections can be thinned out. With
the Internet, so much is available online. Keep family recipes
and other recipes you make often. Discard recipes that you have
not made for at least the last five years.
- Shop for storage containers that are designed
for the items you want to put in them.
Garage Tips
- Be creative in finding storage space in the garage.
- Build shelves that hang from the ceiling over the cars.
- Use old kitchen cabinets in the garage.
- If you have a slanted roof, build a floor and create an attic area.
- Space between studs can be good storage areas.
- A garage is not a storage unit, it is meant to protect cars. Set aside an area for storage, but don’t let your storage overtake your garage.
- Use plastic containers to protect your things from getting
wet.
- To keep track of tools, create a space on the wall for each
tool and draw an outline around the tool. When a tool is removed, it is obvious as to where it belongs.
Home Office Tips
- Maintain a space to manage your paperwork. Adequate storage,
filing systems, and cleared desk space are important to maintaining
an organized room. Rooms with too many purposes also lead to disorganization
and less usage.
- Create a filing system that works for you. Create new folders
when needed, so all things have a place.
