Three things Thursday!
How to get more work done:
I have very, very, little time to get things done. I have my 2 little ones, the hubbs, and clients almost everyday (hallelujah!). So recently I have been researching methods on how to get more done with the time that I have. Here are 3 ways to be more productive.
1) Be organized...duh.
Okay, check! No but really, we waste an average of a half an hour to an hour each day looking for things. How about finding homes for your things, storing like with like and putting them away when you are finished? Certainly a time saver, and a great habit to get into!
2) The Pomodoro Technique
Okay so this technique was developed in the 1980s by Francesco Cirillo. It's a time management philosophy that aims to provide the user with maximum focus and creative freshness, thereby allowing them to complete projects faster with less mental fatigue.
Here is the general gist. For all of your projects throughout the day you "chunk" your work into small increments of 25 minutes separated by short (5 minutes or under) breaks. Each productive increment is called a "pomodoro", which is the Italian word for Tomato (Francesco developed his method prior to smartphones, and used a tomato timer to measure his time). SO. After 4 "Pomodoros" you take a 10-15 minute break. Cirillo also encourages you to make checkmarks at the end of each "pomodoro" for each completed.
Working in these increments causes you to try to "beat the clock" and really focus on the task at hand. In time you will find yourself less and less distracted and more productive. You'll learn to "respect the tomato" and get things done!
3) Say "no" more often
Even typing that gives this people-pleaser a little anxiety. BUT, the more we say "yes", the more we add to our to-do list. Know yourself, know your day, and don't take on too much.
