3 things Thursday: Organization to Streamline your Morning

(did y'all miss me?)

Okay so I talk A LOT about how Organizing your space can impact your life in a positive way, but what about organizing your time? I used to be a “morning person,” but adulting and having children has made be a little less bright eyed when the alarm sounds. If you feel the same, here are some small shifts in time management and habits that can really curtail the morning drag:

***You can also see the breakdown in the clip on last week's Good Afternoon Arkansas segment here:

1) DO AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THE NIGHT BEFORE: preparation is key. Here are some things you can organize at night that can save you time and energy in the AM.

-Set your coffee to brew automatically. You know it’s the best part of waking up right? Set it to brew about a half hour before you hit the kitchen and you will thank yourself (and me, YOU’RE WELCOME)

- Set out your clothes. I know this seems silly but you’d be surprised how much time it can save you in the morning. That’s because you are eliminating a lot of decision making when time is short. I have a hook in my bedroom where I hang my whole outfit for the next day. It’s ah-mazing!

- Get your kids as ready as possible. This includes setting out outfits, making sure homework is done, and making lunches the night before. Anything you can all do together nightly will make the morning go smoother.

- Shower and blow out hair at night. Hair prep can be a BIG suck in the morning. And a good silk pillowcase can tame any frizz and flyaways that try to arrive overnight.

- Make a habit of a nightly sweep to clear surfaces and put away any extraneous items that have wandered too far away from their homes. Keeping things where they belong means you won’t be frantically looking for them when you need them.

(I REALIZE THIS TOTALLY COUNTS AS MORE THAN ONE THING

- sorry not sorry)

2) MAKE YOUR BED! okay I know what you are thinking, this will just add time in the morning. But studies have shown time and time again that an organized environment can positively impact your day, plus it starts you off with a small sense of accomplishment. So Mama was right, make your bed!

3) Utilize a home assistant for voice reminders in the morning. If you have Alexa, Siri, or “hey google”, you can set them to give you a weather or traffic report at certain times or remind you of multiple things like “Megan you need to leave in 5 minutes to get to your appointment in time” or “hey kids you have 20 minutes until the first bell rings” for whomever in your family may need a little extra prodding or accountability.

Over time you can to make all of these practices habit, but just starting with one shift can make a big difference to your morning!

Peace, love, and labelmakers!
